The Blüe Monster is a unique pedal. Working with two separate overdrive circuits, – one for the lower and one for the higher range of the guitar frequency spectrum – it gives surprisingly clear separation even on high gain settings; ideal for fat powerchords in drop-D tuning. These frequency delimited circuits – both with their own gain and level controls – are also fully phase compensated; any artefacts when mixed together are avoided.

The overdrive circuits are structured around the 4049UBE FET circuit, initially discovered for musical purposes by sound guru Craig Anderton, giving the pedal its characteristic sound. The internal voltage doubler ensures loads of headroom. An active, tunable two-pole LP filter gives suitable tone adjustment possibilities.

With six pots, 60+ passive components and four IC circuits, this is a complex build.

A quote from the DIY web: “Everyone should build themselves one of these. It’s really refreshing to build something that not only does something new, but sounds bloody brilliant with it!” (juansolo, madbean’s forum)
